Welcome to Paws & Learn
At Piatt County Animal Shelter, we believe caring for animals goes beyond the shelter doors. Education is one of the most powerful tools we have to improve the lives of animals and strengthen our community.
Welcome to Paws & Learn, a new educational resource from PCAS where we’ll share helpful information, practical tips, and articles about caring for the animals we love.
Our community is wonderfully diverse. From farms and rural homesteads to neighborhoods and college communities, the people of Piatt County have many different experiences with animals. But whether your pets are working companions, barn cats, family dogs, or beloved house cats, we all have something in common: we want the animals in our lives to be healthy, safe, and happy.
Through Paws & Learn, we’ll explore topics that can help make that possible, including the importance of spay and neuter programs, preventative veterinary care, pet nutrition, animal behavior, responsible pet ownership, and animal welfare.
Why does education matter? Because the more we understand about animals and their needs, the better equipped we are to care for them, recognize problems early, prevent unwanted litters, and make choices that keep pets in loving homes. And when we help one animal, we can have an impact that reaches far beyond that individual pet.
We’ll add a new article each month, with information we hope is useful whether you’re a lifelong pet owner, welcoming your first animal into your family, caring for animals on the farm, or simply someone who loves them.
We’re excited to make Paws & Learn a growing resource for Piatt County and beyond.
